BAILEY’S WOODS TRAIL
A National Recreation Trail, Bailey’s Woods Trail links Rowan Oak, William Faulkner’s historic home, to the University Museum. Stretching approximately 3,000 feet, the trail takes about 20 minutes to walk, and bikes are not permitted on the trail. Bailey’s Woods is a heavily wooded area that William Faulkner was known to walk through. The trail was officially opened in 2008 and is a popular spot for hikers, UM classes, families and pets. The trail is incorporated into educational programming at the Museum in order to get children and visitors outside and active.

SOUTH CAMPUS RAIL TRAIL (Whirlpool Trails)
The South Campus Rail Trail is an old gravel railroad bed located just south of Highway 6 and just west of Chucky Mullins Drive. Click here for a Google map link. This trail was formerly (and colloquially) known as the “Whirlpool Trails” because of an old appliance factory that resided nearby (which is now being renovated into the South Campus Recreation Center). The marked rail bed trail is five miles, out and back. The University’s goal in managing this property is to provide a quality recreational experience for students, faculty, staff, and Oxford and Lafayette County community members who walk, run, and bike on the trail.
Length: 2.8 miles
Address: South Campus Rail Trail, Oxford, MS 38655
